"OHS-Like Tools"    (01)

The "Open Hyperdocument System" (OHS) consists of a common framework for knowledge management tools that enables the creation and maintenance of DKRs. The OHS consists of the following features:    (02)

• Granular addressability of content    (03)
• Flexible views    (04)
• The ability to reuse content (transclusions)    (05)
• Advanced linking capabilities, including typed links and multidirectional links    (06)
• Versioning    (07)
• Support for heterogeneous information environments    (08)

The most important feature of OHS tools is the ability to interoperate with each other. However, we have not yet defined the requirements for interoperability. For that reason, we are calling the software products of our efforts "OHS-like tools" rather than the OHS itself.    (09)

Our ultimate goal is to build an interoperable OHS infrastructure. To achieve this, our first step is to discover where and how exactly these tools should interoperate. Only after we have achieved this can we begin to define the requirements for the OHS.    (010)
